Café Aurora

A cyberpunk café that doesn't exist, with an intro screen, animated background, menu and a lab to build your drink.

Café Aurora home page: the name in blue and pink neon over a cyberpunk city at night

The challenge

For the Interface Development course, the same brief went to three AIs: ChatGPT, Gemini and DeepSeek. The job was to pick the best page, understand every line and rebuild the code by hand without losing a single effect.

What was built

  • A cyberpunk café with an opening screen, its own cursor, a particle background, a menu and a lab to build your drink, with the cup drawn in CSS alone.
  • From 6 am to 6 pm the site becomes the Aurora Bakery: other colours, another menu and a bread lab, chosen by the visitor’s clock before the page appears.
  • The same page in three builds, plain CSS, Bootstrap and Tailwind, to compare what each way of writing CSS changes.
  • It’s the example site in the Linu Sites simulator: each part switches on and off there, and the price changes with it.

Under the hood

  • 13 languages generated from one template, with fonts served by the site itself and no CDN.
  • AA contrast by day and by night and targets of at least 24 px, checked with axe; with “reduce motion” on, the animations stop.
  • It only accepts the simulator’s commands when they come from the Linu Sites address.
